How the Fischer-Carr Scholarship Fund works

The Fischer-Carr Scholarship Fund partners with the Pinellas Education Foundation and the Mayor of St. Petersburg's St. Pete's Promise to provide scholarships.

Funds are raised by the Fischer-Carr Scholarship Committee to provide Take Stock in Children Scholarships for students in grades 6 through 9 who come from low income families.

These scholarships are for free tuition to post-high school institutes of higher learning.

The scholarship is conditional. Students must maintain grades in all subjects of C or better; must have good attendance; must remain crime and drug free and must graduate from high school.

All students get mentors.

Since 2004 we have provided 397 students with scholarships for free college tuition.

Scholarships are pre-paid through the State of Florida.

Current amount needed to provide a scholarship through our Fund is $4,500.

Studies show that 6th grade students from low-income families have a high school graduation rate of less than 50%. Those with scholarships have a 98% graduation rate.
